Nashville Volunteer Activities

Friendship Partner: to help a new refugee adapt and adjust to American life by teaching them English and providing friendship, advice, and companionship; take refugees on field trips to the mall, parks, movies, local events, etc. Minimum commitment of 2-4 hrs per week for at least three months.

English Tutor: visit a refugee family 2 times a week to help them learn basic English (training provided).

Event Fundraising Coordinator: organize and implement fundraising initiatives to raise support and awareness for World Relief and meet the growing, physical and financial needs of refugees

  • Welcome Kit Coordinator: organize and collect “needed items” by hosting item drives
  • Host a fundraising event like a carwash, cookie swap, musical event, yard sale, silent auction, costume party, etc. Be creative!

Set-up Crew:
set-up homes for newly arrived refugees pick-up donated furniture and deliver items to the apartment or house being prepared for newly arrived refugees; various times Mon-Friday. No minimum commitment.

BusTraining:  help newly-arrived refugees navigate the Metro Bus System

Journey Program: Come help during our after school program for refugee youth. Contact Lynsey Auman at lauman@wr.org for more details.

REACH Program: Volunteer with our refugee professionals and help them reach their career goals. Contact Betsy Pipher at bpipher@wr.org for more details.

Panera Liason: pick-up Panera Bread’s “Day-end Doughnation” on Monday evenings between 8:45PM and 9PM, sort it, and deliver to our office by Thursday morning to provide lunch for brand new arrivals during refugee orientation. Minimum commitment of once a month.

Office Worker: assist World Relief Staff with general clerical duties; no minimum commitment. (any time/day of the standard business week Mon-Fri)

Road Runner
: to transport refugees to various appointments and meetings- day-time availability only; will only be able to provide 1 day to one week advance notice.

Creative Specialist:
create program brochures, videos, and other advertising materials to publicize our mission, giving opportunities, and programs
